USC Vice President | Great Results in producing potato seeds by using plant tissue culture techniques

The University Vice President for Community Services and Environmental Development Prof. Dr. Hamdy Emara visited the Tissue & Greenhouse Lab as an extension to the Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Research Institute, in order to coordinate with the team that succeeded in producing potato seeds using plant tissue culture techniques.

The team included; Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Abd El-Maksoud - Professor of tissue culture and former dean of the Institute, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Noweir – Professor and head of Planet Biotechnology Department and other researchers.

While Dr. Abd El-Maksoud - Project Supervisor – explained He explained that the production of potato seeds is an agricultural revolution and eliminates the monopoly of a few importers of seeds for decades, where the price of tons of potato seeds reached to 20,000 EGP.

Besides, Der. Emara said; the project team succeeded in obtaining the optimal size of potato seeds that imported from Europe, and he pointed out that the University of Sadat City supports the project strongly to place Egypt on the map of the producers of seeds in the world and dispense with the importation and its high costs.
